A forbidden love affair in the past has led Hope Robinson, a middle school principal, to Harbor Bay, Florida, where she commits herself to play by the rules. This can be difficult for a perpetual klutz, who—even strapped in a cast—has to uphold a competent attitude at all times.
Luckily, she has Dr. Colin Calaway on her side, a widower and father of a student, who is ready to give love another try. When Colin convinces Hope they should explore the connection between them, a steamy romance develops, though it could destroy them both. They must decide if their jobs—and their hearts—are worth the risk.
Sensuality Level: Sensual
1. Tell us about your newest book.
Hope Robinson, a middle school principal and perpetual klutz, must play by the book even when Dr. Colin Calaway, a widower and father of a student, steps in and challenges her to break the rules and follow her heart.
2. What other books have you published?
Time Changes Everything was released on May 13, 2013 with Entranced Publishing. Jake doesn’t believe in commitment, until he sees Amanda again – this time in NYC. Can he convince his childhood friend that he’s ready to give her his heart? Time Changes Everything will be out in audiobook format in the fall.
Boy Next Door is a free prequel novella to Time Changes Everything. You can read about Jake and Amanda’s crush when they were in high school. Available on Smashwords: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/310848
3. How did you become a writer? What do you love the most about the job?
I have been an avid romance reader since I was thirteen. While on maternity leave with my littlest, I decided I should try writing what I read. Luckily I did! What I love the most is that I love what I do. It’s fun. I enjoy it. It’s not something I dread. My dream is to become a full-time writer in the near future.
4. How do you develop your ideas for your works?
Most of my ideas come from observations. I’m always looking at people and thinking of stories to go with them. Once I get an idea, scenes come to me in dreams.
5. What’s your favorite part about writing romance?
I can create anything I want and then live through it. There are so many things I want to do in life, but sometimes it’s not always possible. In fact, Hope, in Breaking the Rules, is very much like me. She has a bucket list and many of those items are things I’d like to do.
6. Tell us about what books are coming up next from you.
I’m working with a few other fabulous romance writers on a contemporary romance Olympics sports anthology, Love and Other Games. You will see Trouble With Gold later this year.
I also have a Valentine novella in the works called, Time Out Valentine. This has been a lot of fun because I’m writing my first beta hero and it has that romantic comedy feel.
7. What do you think are your strengths as a writer? What aspects of writing are the most challenging for you?
This is a tough question! I think I’m never completely satisfied with my work and feel like I can improve. I happen to really like the heroes I create and I tell my stories better in the male POV. What’s challenging is writing realistic sex scenes that don’t just sound clinical.
8. Who are some of your favorite writers and/or books?
I’m a huge Jill Shalvis fangirl. When I meet her, I will be stuttering, gagging and slobbering all over the place. Not one of her books has ever disappointed me. I love them all! Other great authors I love include Susan Mallery, Sarah Mayberry and Ruthie Knox.
9. Do you have any special appearances (virtual or physical) coming up for your book release?
I have a blog tour this month. Check my link here for more information: http://melindadozier.blogspot.com/2013/07/breaking-rules-release-day.html
